We were watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night.
He was walking in the park this time last Sunday.
Як ти знаєш, у кожному часи англійської мови є своє допоміжне дієслово, яке допомагає створити заперечення або питання! Так ось, у Past Comtinuous це — was /were!
1. Negative sentence. (Щоб створити заперечення у будь якому часи треба після підмета поставити допоміжне дієслово з часткою not)
We were not watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night.
He was not walking in the park this time last Sunday.
Скорочення:
Was not = wasn`t
Were not = weren`t
2. General question. (Щоб створити загальне запитання у будь якому часі, треба перед підметом поставити допоміжне дієслово.)
Were we watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night?
Yes, we were. No, we weren`t
Was he walking in the park this time last Sunday?
Yes, he was. No, he wasn`t.
3. General-negative question.
Were we not watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night? (Weren`t we watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night?)
Was he not walking in the park this time last Sunday? (Wasn`t he walking in the park this time last Sunday?)
4. Alternative question. (Альтернативні питання створюються так же як і загальні, тільки зі словом or (чи). Слово or ставиться поміж словами, між якими треба зробити вібір.)
Were we watching the football or volleyball game at 7 o`clock last night?
Was he walking in the park this time last Sunday or Saturday?
5. Disjunctive (tail, tag) question.
We were watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night, weren`t we?
We were not watching the football game at 7 o`clock last night, were we?
He was walking in the park this time last Sunday, wasn`t he?
He was not walking in the park this time last Sunday, was he?
6. Special questions. (Щоб скласти спеціальне питання, треба дотримуватись такої схеми:
Питальне слово + допоміжне дієслово + підмет +основне дієслово + все інше, крім слова до якого задаємо питання)
What game were we watching at 7 o`clock last night?
Why were we walking in the park this time last Sunday?
Примітка: Якщо питання до підмета, то після питальних слів Who (хто) What(що) іде WAS

ВЖИВАННЯ PAST CONTINUOUS
У назві є слово PAST, а це означає, що дія відбувалась:
- Yesterday – вчора
- The day before yesterday – позавчора
- Last week (month, year) – минулого тижня (місяця, року)
- An hour ago – годину тому
- Two days ago – два дні тому
- On Monday – у понеділок
- In July – у липні
- In 2001 – у 2001 році
- The other day – цими днями і т.і.
Але, це ще і CONTINUOUS TENSE, а це означає, що дія тривала.
І так, the Past Continuous tense вживається:
1. Для вираження дії, що тривала (відбувалась) у певний момент у минулому. Цей момент позначається словами типу:
at five o`clock
at midnight
at noon
at this moment
at that moment
this time
або підрядним реченням у Past Simple типу:
when my mother came;
when the telephone rang;
when I saw him
when I met her і т.п.
She was sitting at the table when the telephone rang.
I was doing my homework when my mother came.
He was riding the bike at noon yesterday.
2. Для вираження дії, що тривала (відбувалась) протягом якогось періоду часу в минулому. Цей період позначається словами типу:
From 7 till 8
The whole day (evening, morning, night etc.)
All morning (evening, day, night)
I was speaking to my business partner the whole morning yesterday.
We were waiting in the car from 5 till 6.
3. Для вираження двох і більше дій, які тривали одночасно в минулому. Здебільшого такі речення з’єднуються словом while:
I was doing my homework while my sister was playing with her toys.
4. Для вираження дії, що тривала у минулому, а інша її перервала.
Jack was walking the dog when he saw Dave.
5. Якщо ми описуємо події, що є фоном основних подій у минулому.
The sun was shining brightly. The wind was blowing and the birds were singing when I heard a strange noise.
